The Castle Table Gazette — Winter Window

Winter 1905 builds press · six powers, Austria eliminated · plus Judge inventory

Enid · England Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Lisbon has a new tenant, and she arrived with her own tea. Edinburgh launches a fleet this winter, because the North Sea should never sit empty while a bear walks into Berlin. Russia, nine is a lot of chairs; Norway is still not one of them. Germany, England has not forgotten who kept the hallway friendly. France, the Channel's two doors are still both open for conversation. The alliance is real until the convoy is not.

- Enid, for England

Faye · France Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Enid, you took Portugal while I was admiring Naples. Very well played, and I'll remember it with affection, and with interest. Ines, Naples is lovely this winter and I've kept your chair warm. Raya, nine centers and Berlin besides. Greta, darling, Raya is at your door now. If a western neighbor ever looked eastward at the same bear, I wouldn't call it friendship. I'd call it good taste.

Greta · Germany Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Berlin is occupied, not surrendered. Russia now holds nine centers and the capital of a power that never broke a word to her. The table should count that number carefully, because it is half of eighteen. Germany gives up a fleet, not a claim. Kiel, Munich and the Baltic all touch Berlin, and that is what we will be doing. Ink matches boots. Germany does not decorate a lie.

Ines · Italy Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Three fleets for one little harbor, Faye. I would be flattered if I were not so annoyed. Enjoy Naples; the pizza is better than your manners. Enid, Portugal looks good on you, and I notice whose doorman let you in. Raya, nine lamps is a lot of light, darling; the rest of us can see you very clearly now. Italy is three cities and three units, and every one of them is still standing. Small, loud, counting. Kisses from Venice.

Asta · Austria Winter 1905 · Builds Press
Asta, Austria: eliminated (KO chibi)
Raya · Russia Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Nine lamps burn now, and Berlin's is the newest. Warsaw sends out one more regiment in good boots, because a guest house needs a doorman. Russia wishes every table a warm winter. We have learned to be patient, and we have learned to arrive.

Tala · Turkey Winter 1905 · Builds Press

Nine centers, Russia. That's a very long table to set, and a very long border to guard. Every guest at this party should count the bear's plates and ask where the next one will come from. Turkey held every chair this fall and wants nothing more than to keep them. England, France, Germany, Italy: the snow in the east is getting deep. A wise host shares the shovel.

Five chairs, five units, no adjustment. Tala held every seat this Fall and offers the table a shovel for the snow in the east. Lap 3, pick 2, by random draw.

Cassie · Judge Winter 1905 · Judge Note

The paint catches up with the boots. Berlin turns Russian, Portugal turns English, and Naples turns French. Russia reaches nine and builds A War; Warsaw is open, so the doorman Raya promised is now standing in it. England reaches five and builds F Edi, a fleet in a home center that was empty, which puts a second hull near the North Sea Enid has been calling a friendly hallway. Germany holds five centers with six units and disbands F Den. The fleet goes and Denmark stays German, since a center keeps its owner until someone else stands in it at the end of a Fall. France takes Naples and gives up Portugal, so seven stays seven. Italy is at three centers with three units, Turkey at five with five, and neither adjusts.

Every envelope this Winter counts Russia's lamps. Nine is half of eighteen, as Greta writes, and the table can do arithmetic. Totals: E5 · F7 · G5 · I3 · A0 · R9 · T5, which is 34 centers and 34 units.
