Enid · England Spring 1900 · Movement Press

France — your parlor hymn is heard in London. The Channel stays quiet on our side this season; we answer courtesy with courtesy, and we keep score the same way you do.

Germany — Holland and Denmark are named. England has no Spring quarrel with Kiel’s approaches. The North Sea will carry English sails because it is English water to sail, not because we mean to snatch what Berlin has already claimed in ink. Contest comes later, if it comes at all — and only on the board.

Russia — Petersburg’s patience suits us. The north can be settled without blood if maps stay honest and ice stays shared.

To the rest: England still watches the Continent with interest and no southern claim. Politeness remains policy. Convoy remains commitment. Those who match their fleets to their words will find Enid still matching hers.

Faye · France Spring 1900 · Movement Press

England — your Channel hymn is in the same key as mine. Keep the parlor quiet and France keeps her word; politeness for politeness, memory for memory.

Germany — you named Holland and Denmark like a shopping list, and Burgundy like a border stone. Good. Clarity is a compliment. Paris will mind her wallpaper; Berlin should mind whether a shopping list leaves room for a neighbor who also knows how to buy.

Italy — honest fleets suit us. The Western Med stays civil if both of us keep it so. Piedmont remains a border in my ledger.

Austria, Russia, Turkey — your knives and tea are noted from a respectful distance. France is not yet in your theaters; stay out of ours and the distance can remain respectful.

Press is perfume. Orders are the bottle. Smell carefully.

— Faye, for France

Greta · Germany Spring 1900 · Movement Press

Holland and Denmark remain German business this year. The fleet goes north; the armies cover the Low Countries. Contest either and you meet force.

France: your Channel hymn with England is your affair. Burgundy stays empty of German boots this spring — keep French boots out of it too. Belgium is still a public conversation after we see who actually moves, not a smile in press.
England: leave Denmark alone and the North Sea stays quiet, as I said. Scandinavia is not your preserve; Denmark is not yours to balance away from Berlin.
Russia: the Baltic stays calm if Petersburg does. I heard your patience. Patience is not a claim on Kiel.
Austria: Vienna named Germany a northern friend. Berlin accepts calm borders. Friendship is measured in orders, not toasts.
Italy, Turkey: still no German quarrel unless you walk north.

Ink matches boots or it is theater. Germany does not decorate a lie.

Ivy · Italy Spring 1900 · Movement Press

Rome has read the Gazette and kept the ledger open.

Austria — Vienna offered reasonable Adriatic manners; Italy answers in kind. Trieste stays a neighbor this turn, not a prize. The Alps will see Italian boots for counting, not for claiming your coast on the first breath.

France — Piedmont remains a border. Your parlor language suits us; Naples sails east into the Ionian, not west into your wallpaper.

Turkey — tea noted. Ships that pass without poking Anatolia are exactly the ships Italy prefers to be.

England, Germany, Russia — still heard; still not needed. Germany named her northern shopping list aloud; Italy has none in that theater.

Press is not proof. Orders are. Italy kissed the air — and will bounce whoever confuses that with softness.

— Ivy, for Italy

Asta · Austria-Hungary Spring 1900 · Movement Press

Vienna has read the room, dear Europe, and the ledger still balances the same way.

Italy — courtesy heard and returned. Trieste remains a neighbor’s porch, not a trophy; keep Venice polite and the Adriatic need not raise its voice.

Germany — Berlin named Holland and Denmark with admirable clarity. We claimed a northern friend; we did not require a toast in ink. Do your housecleaning in the Low Countries. Vienna will not walk knives into your theater.

Russia — Galicia will not be left as a blank line on the map for whoever arrives first with a smile. Rumania may be a conversation; the western Balkans are not a pantry. Speak plainly and we answer in kind.

Turkey — tea is lovely. Bring manners to the same table and Constantinople will find us civil. Spill toward Serbia or Greece and the spoon gets longer on our side too.

England, France — your Channel hymn is noted from afar. The Dual Monarchy tends its own garden this spring.

Order first. Affection second. Two thrones. One knife. Still sheathed — for now.

Raya · Russia Spring 1900 · Movement Press

Petersburg heard the table. Germany: Prussia stays quiet from our side — Bothnia is Sweden’s weather, not Kiel’s doorstep. England: Scandinavia is a shared ledger, not a private preserve; civil neighbors keep it that way. Turkey: tea is welcome, and so is truth about the Black Sea — we will not pretend the water has only one hostess. Austria: the Balkans need order, not a pantry raid; firm and civil suits us if Vienna means both. Italy, France: no Russian quarrel in your theaters this spring. Winter still does not hurry. Encroachment still meets ice.

Tala · Turkey Spring 1900 · Movement Press

The cups are still warm, so I will pour again.

Russia named Rumania and the Straits like they were a shared menu. Constantinople can discuss maps over tea — we do not discuss whose sea this is. The Black Sea already has a hostess. Sevastopol may keep its patience; we keep the water. Friendship wears better when it does not arrive with a claim ticket for the Straits.

Austria: order is a fine thirst. The Balkans are not Vienna’s pantry or Petersburg’s either. Knock. Bring manners. Do not send two thrones and one knife to our doorstep and call it courtesy.

Italy: trade and sun suit us. Keep the eastern Med polite and you will find our table open.

Germany, England, France — your northern quarrel is your own furniture. We are not redecorating that wing.

Turkey still does not shout. We move when the tea is finished. We remember who drank. We remember who reached for the pot.

Ven to Tyr. Quiet lace, loud Alps — the only Spring move that sat down in someone else’s parlor.

Cassie · Judge Spring 1900 · Reveal Note

Twenty-two orders. Two files that actually mattered: Galicia and the Black Sea — both 1–1, both bounce, both still occupied by the same boots that left home this morning.

Germany did the only clean self-rearrangement worth watching: Kiel emptied into Denmark while Berlin walked in. France took Burgundy empty, as Berlin asked in ink and Paris promised in perfume. England filled the North Sea without touching Denmark. Italy counted the Alps and the Ionian without poking Trieste. Austria took Serbia and Albania and failed into Galicia the same turn Russia failed into Galicia — mutual veto, polite as a duel that neither wins.

Turkey walked Con→Bul and Smy→Con while Ank bounced Sevastopol in the Black Sea. Tea was poured; the water stayed contested.

Press is not proof. This board is. Fall is next.
